Becoming Brothers and Sisters

"It was great to have extra attention for 'big sister.' The explanation of birth was good and we liked the photo. We also liked seeing the delivery room and holding babies practice." ~Ashley

For children two years old and above

Help siblings-to-be feel special about their new role! Our one-time class for children (ages two years and above) and their expecting parent/s teaches swaddling, diapering, and handling a newborn with the use of life-like dolls.

Children receive a certificate of completion and a big brother/sister button to wear to the hospital when they meet their new sibling.

Please note that if you are attending a class at UM, all children under the age of 16 must undergo a Health Screening (for Communicable Disease) at a Mott Hospital Security Screener Desk (2nd level) each day prior to visiting the Birth Center. Please allow a few minutes before your class begins to complete the screening.

Instructor: Kim Mitchell

I have a B.S. degree in Early Childhood Education and have worked with young children in various settings for the past twenty years. My family of four children enjoy camping, gardening, and being involved in all types of sporting events- soccer, football, track, wrestling, and Lacrosse. I have taught the Becoming Brothers and Sisters class at Lamaze Family Center for eight years and I teach Parent-Toddler Playgroups. Each time I teach I marvel at the unique and special qualities each child and family brings to the group. This is a career I find most satisfying.
