 Fit4Baby®- by Stroller Strides

Fit4Baby® is a program designed to strengthen the body for all the changes it will experience during pregnancy. This one hour class includes cardio, strength, flexibility and balance training. Fit4Baby is designed to accommodate all stages of pregnancy and various fitness levels. These classes are for moms only.

American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), exercise is just as important during pregnancy, and is the perfect time to commit to you and your baby's health. While pregnancy is a time of beauty and wonder, it can also be a time of discomfort and trial. Regular activity such as Fit4Baby classes can help to reduce many maternal aches and pains, increase energy during pregnancy and may speed the labor, delivery and recovery process. We want to help you be FIT FOR MOTHERHOOD! Fit4Baby is designed to show you how to exercise safely and effectively throughout your pregnancy.

Stroller Strides®

Stroller Strides

Stroller Strides® is a total fitness program that moms can do with their babies. It includes low-impact cardio and intervals of strength and body toning exercises using exercise tubing, and the environment. Taught by certified and specially trained fitness instructors, it is a great workout for any level of exerciser. Stroller Strides instructors weave songs and activities into the routine designed to entertain and engage baby, while moms are led through a series of exercises specific to her role as mom.

 

This unique program also provides moms with the opportunity to meet other moms, engage with their babies, and to form lasting friendships. Stroller Strides is designed to give mothers the "Strength for Motherhood!"

 

Class meets for one hour, once a week, for 6 weeks.

Beloved Babes Infant Massage

Beloved Babes Infant Massage


Learn to massage your baby with infant massage! Infant massage is a great way for you to spend some quality time bonding with your baby and learning your baby’s cues. Infant massage is a valuable bonding tool for both mom and dad and is beneficial for both parent and baby.  Such benefits can include:

>Parent-child bonding and attachment.
>Learning to communicate with your
>Stress reduction.
>Improved sleep patterns
>Development of neural connections.
>Improved circulation, respiration and digestion.
>Relief from gas, constipation and colic.
>Assist mothers experiencing postpartum depression work through the depression

Infant massage is ideal for infants who are not yet mobile, typically newborn up to 6 months.  At 6 months, most infants begin to want to explore their environment and would prefer to move around instead of lay still for a massage. If your baby is older than 6 months but is not yet demonstrating mobility, please join us!

Infant massage is well suited for babies demonstrating both typical and atypical development.  If your baby has special needs or was born prematurely, our Special Souls Infant Massage class provides additional techniques and a smaller class size to ensure that the massage is rewarding and a true bonding time for you and your baby.

Class Details: Class meets for one hour, once a week, for 5 weeks. Although some pillows and blankets will be provided, please bring a floor pillow and blanket that you or your baby find comforting for use during class. Your partner is welcome to join our class as well. Class cost includes materials fee.

Breastfeeding 101

Fee: $35.00 [See Schedule]

Our two-hour class, to be taken before your baby arrives, covers the basics of breastfeeding plus information on life with a breastfeeding baby, nutrition, proper latch, how fathers/partners can help, and avoiding or managing problems such as sore nipples, engorgement, nipple confusion, and mastitis. Each couple will have an opportunity to practice various breastfeeding positions.

Dads/partners are welcome and encouraged to attend.

If you have registered for a Lamaze Weekday or Weekend Childbirth class, this class fee is included in your registration, but you must register for this class, so please choose a class that works for your schedule. Please use the code given to you after registering for your class, or email info@lamazefamilycenter.org if you need assistance.

 

Breastfeeding Basics Seminar

Our one-hour Breastfeeding Basics seminar, to be taken before your baby arrives, touches on the basics of breastfeeding plus an opportunity to ask questions of our breastfeeding instructor. 

Registrants are encouraged to take our full two hour class for more in depth information.

Dads/partners are welcome and encouraged to attend.

This Seminar is offered at Babies R Us in Ypsilanti.

 

Mother's Groups

Meet other new moms and get support and advice after your baby is born. In addition to a weekly topic and circle time, you'll learn songs, simple baby games, and basic infant movement. This series begins each session with group discussion on topics such as getting your baby to sleep, life with a newborn, how to survive the challenges of being a mom, places to go around town with your baby, changes to your relationships, and then later, introducing solids and more. Many mothers find support and friendship here and continue these relationships outside of group time, as well. Moms are encouraged to feed their baby during group, and all you need to bring is a blanket for your baby to lay on.

You can join the group at any time if the session has already begun, and if you are heading back to work, we can prorate the group so you can attend as many sessions as your schedule allows.

Mother's Groups 2 : Baby Fun Time

Fee: $55.00 [See Schedule]

Meet other new moms and get support and advice after your baby is born. In addition to a weekly topic and circle time, you'll learn learn songs, games and what changes to expect as your growing baby gets up and going! Baby Fun Time is geared toward the slightly older baby who is now more alert and more active. All this new-ness brings more questions for mom! This series begins each session with group discussion on topics relevant to moms with older babies. Many mothers find support and friendship here and continue these relationships outside of group time, as well. Moms are encouraged to feed their baby during group, and all you need to bring is a blanket for your baby to play on.

You can join the group at any time if the session has already begun, and if you are heading back to work, we can prorate the group so you can attend as many sessions as your schedule allows.

The Postpartum Depression Support Group

We meet the first and third Mondays of the month from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Lamaze Family Center Ann Arbor, 2855 Boardwalk , Ann Arbor, MI 48104 .

Please RSVP by calling 418-2683 and leaving a message. A facilitator will return your call.  There is no need to register on the website. Please feel free to drop in.

 

The Postpartum Depression Support Group of the Greater Ann Arbor Area A grassroots support group facilitated by five volunteers who work with pregnant and parenting women. Our mission is to support women in their recovery from postpartum depression.

The good news is that postpartum depression and anxiety get better with treatment and support. You will feel better!

Women experiencing depression or anxiety symptoms during pregnancy or postpartum are invited to attend. Participants are welcome to bring their baby, partner, family member, or friend to the meeting.

Each meeting includes information on a topic related to recovery followed by open discussion. Topics include:

  • symptoms and feelings
  • self-care
  • support systems
  • myths of motherhood
