To help you get the best start to your pregnancy, we developed this fun workshop for expectant moms to take within your first 20 weeks of pregnancy. You'll learn about exercise, nutrition, and safe practices and resources as you begin this exciting journey. This class will be your first step to start a healthy and educated pregnancy. Learn what to expect for the next nine months! Each registrant will receive an informational folder full of community resources, reading lists, fetal development charts, and more. Meet other moms with due dates close to yours.
Lamaze 4 Wk. Childbirth Classes

Our premier, comprehensive childbirth class is designed for pregnant women and their partners. This in-depth, interactive 12-hour series meets on weekday nights at three different locations throughout Ann Arbor. The series covers a wide range of topics in-depth based on Lamaze International's Six Healthy Birth Practices, including:
All of our childbirth educators are highly trained, active in the birth community and are Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educators (LCCE). Our prenatal classes are endorsed by the University of Michigan and one of our class series is taught in the new University of Michigan Von Voigtlander Women's Hospital. Due to limited space at the VonVoightlander classroom, we recommend families birthing outside of the University of Michigan Hospital consider classes located at the Lamaze Family Center, East Ann Arbor Medical Center or My Urban Toddler. Please note this class includes a free breastfeeding class on another day (to be taken before baby is born). Lamaze 2 Wk. Condensed Childbirth Classes

This in-depth, interactive 6-hour series meets either all-day Saturday or two consecutive Sunday afternoons or two consecutive Monday nights. The cost of this class also includes a two-hour breastfeeding class. After you complete your registration, we will email you the code to register for your free class within 48 hours. Our one-time class offers pregnant women and their partners the basics of childbirth preparation in an all-day, condensed format. Several topics are covered, including the various stages of labor, an introduction to relaxation and breathing techniques, comfort measures and positions for labor and delivery, pain management options, cesarean birth, and early postpartum. This class fee also includes a free breastfeeding class here at the Lamaze Family Center. When payment is received, you will receive an email within 48 hours with a coupon code you can use towards one of our breastfeeding classes. Lamaze Private Classes

We offer Private Classes in the following formats: Lamaze Childbirth; Breastfeeding; Infant Care; Infant CPR; and Lamaze Review Workshop. Please see the descriptions below Private classes are intended for families with special circumstances and/or emergencies.
Lamaze Childbirth: This intimate, single three-hour class is scheduled with one of our private childbirth instructors. The class will be designed to meet the needs of the pregnant woman and her partner and can be scheduled for a time and location convenient for all parties involved. Breastfeeding: This private, 1.5 hour session with a certified lactation consultant will give you information on the basics of getting off to a good start with breastfeeding, including latch on and positioning the baby at breast, how to tell the baby is getting enough and when to call for help. We will talk about some of the common problems and how to avoid them. It will be scheduled for a time and date convenient for all parties involved. Infant Care: This intimate, single two-hour class is scheduled with one of our private infant care instructors. The class will be designed to include such basics of infant care as feeding, diapering, swaddling, bathing and comforting a newborn. This private session will take place at Lamaze Family Center and can be scheduled for a time and date convenient for all parties involved. Infant CPR: Be prepared in the event of a life-threatening emergency. Participants learn infant CPR through classroom work and skills demonstrations in this one-time private class taught by an American Red Cross-certified instructor. Our 1.5 hour private class focuses solely on infant CPR – to obtain certification in infant CPR and infant first aid, full-day courses are available through the American Red Cross. Class is for pregnant families and those with babies up to 12 months old. Babies in arms (non-crawlers) are welcome. Contact the office at 734.973.1014 to schedule a private class with the instructor for a mutually beneficial time and date. Cost: $125 includes mom and partner. If you would like to include additional caregivers/adults in the private class setting, the fee is $25 per adult.
Lamaze Review Workshop: If the scheduled Review Workshops don't work for your schedule, consider this private class option with our certified instructor. Parents with previous childbirth experience will benefit from this one-time “refresher” class, which thoroughly reviews relaxation and breathing techniques, hospital procedures, and partner's role during labor. Second-time moms with first-time partners are also welcome, as well as your birth doula or other support person. Second-time moms with first-time partners are also welcome, as well as your birth doula. Baby Basics Seminar[See Schedule]Babies don't come with instructions so we have created this mini-seminar option for families to have a brief overview of some key topics ncluding newborn appearence, newborn behaviors, diapering, dressing, umbilical cord care, newborn health and safety basics and when to call the doctor. Seminars are taught by one of our infant care instructors and take place at Babies R Us in Ypsilanti. Registrants are encouraged to take our full two week workshop for more in-depth information. Babies don’t come with instructions, so we designed a series full of information and demonstrations to prepare for newborn care. Topics covered include swaddling, diapering, feeding, holding, bathing, cord care, crying, when to call a pediatrician, safety issues, sleep issues, and emotional adjustment. May be taken any time during pregnancy. Classes are two weeks in length. Infant Care for Adoptive Families

Bringing a new family member into your home can be made simpler through our Infant Care for Adoptive Families class. We've structured this class to be adotion-friendly and to recognize that this newest family member has not only basic care needs, but also bonding and attachment needs. Topics covered include basic infant care, such as: swaddling, diapering, feeding, bathing, crying, when to call a pediatrician, safety issues, sleep issues, and emotional adjustment. In addition, the class will cover building family identity, incorporating the birth family into your life and other emotional support topics. Lamaze Teen Childbirth Series[See Schedule]As part of our commitment to providing childbirth education to everyone, Lamaze Family Center Ann Arbor has partnered with the Corner Health Center to offer teen childbirth education class for free. This class, which meets for two weeks (topics covered include childbirth, postpartum care and resources, infant care and safe sleep), is designed for pregnant teens (22 years old or younger) and their partners or a family member. Class time is spent discussing a wide range of topics, including the various stages of labor, relaxation and breathing techniques, comfort measures and positions for labor and delivery, and pain management options.
